Want to be a Walker? Get Zombified!

The Walking Dead has been on many people's minds lately since the season premier was just 2 days ago.

Now that Halloween is coming up, you have 2 reasons to get zombified! I didn't think a zombie blog would be my first real post, but I didn't want to pass this up. My roommate asked me if I could help out with her video for a class project so I said sure.  It ended up that I needed to be a zombie for it.  I put on a simple outfit and some makeup and voila! I was ready to scare my entire campus, which I did :) and it was great.

This look is definitely not professional or as creepy as some other extensive makeup jobs are, but it definitely works! Especially if you are in college like me and cannot afford high end stage makeup.

  • You want it to look like your skin is decaying so put dark makeup around your eye sockets to make them look sunken and on your temples and underneath your cheek bones to make you look more skeletal.
  • For the cut on my forehead, I just put black in the middle and browns on the outside to look like a bruise. Then use red lipstick to glob on the actual cut.
  • Add lighter powder in any other areas to make you look paler and ghostly.
  • The fake blood was made of corn starch and strawberry ice-cream syrup.  It was extremely sticky, but it did the job. It will drip when you first put it on but will eventually stay where it is. For example, I put a glob on my cut which then dripped down to my nose, but then stiffened enough not to drip farther.
  • For zombie hair, just use bedhead! Just tease and toss around day-old hair. The stringier and greasier, the better. (Zombies don't take showers.)
  • (Optional) Contacts.  I have brown eyes so to make it look even creepier, I put it pale green Halloween contacts.
Can you say CHEAP!? You can literally achieve this with things you most likely already have laying around.  If you do have to spend a couple extra dollars, scaring students on campus walkways is worth it! Haha

Introduction

WOW!

Never thought I'd find myself blogging, but here I am. I suppose I could start with a little background on myself. I'm 22 and finishing my last semester at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I'm getting my degree in Business Administration and then starting Cosmetology school in January.  I live in Wisconsin and love it! Platteville, not so much. My heart belongs to Southeastern Wisco <3. I have an amazing dog that I treat like a baby. His name is Nugget, he's an American Bulldog, and he just turned 3 at the end of September. I have a younger sister Olivia that will end up on SNL one day. When people ask me about her, that's what I tell them since that explains so much in so few words haha.

I have never been a good artist using paper and pencil.  Growing up, that was always Olivia's talent.  I knew pretty early on that I loved to do hair, or at least my own. I got to get my first highlights in 7th grade, and I got my first "unnatural" color my Sophomore year of high school which consisted of a whopping streak of blue. Been hooked ever since.  Instead of paper as a canvas, I use my whole head. The things people can do with dyes, bleach, shears, razors, foundation, eyeliner, lipstick, etc. amazes me. You can literally create a new masterpiece of yourself every day.

As mentioned above, I don't start Cosmetology school until January so I have no professional training in this area, but it's something I love to do and experiment with a lot. I hope to start this blog just showing what I know now and then moving into different things as I learn them come January.  I hope to be able to look back at this blog and see how I've progressed as well as share what I know with anyone reading this.

Everyone is beautiful.  I never want people who read this to think that I consider "natural" to be ugly. That is absolutely not true.  There are plenty of times when I just don't have the time to do anything and I walk around with a bun and no makeup.  I do it because I think it's super fun and everyday is a new opportunity to "Create Yourself."  You can be anything you want to be, and your beautiful face is the first thing people see.  So be beautiful. Be you.
